I completed a round of synvisc injections.  There were no problems after the first two, however I was pretty uncomfortable after the third one.  I had the last shot in early Dec.  Since then I've had lots of pain and swelling.  I've now had two cortisone shots and nothing is helping.  Has anyone else had any negative side effects from Synvisc?  Did anything help?

Hi, I've just completed my 3rd set of Synvisc injections and I've never had any problems.  I usually have a set of 3 inj. every 6-8 months.  Did you have xrays to determine osteoarthritis?  Lindy

Hi,

I had the three Synvisc injections in the right knee last April and they were fine and worked immediately for me. When they were completed we did the left knee and while they restored the function it felt much like maybe I should have been scoped first and had meniscus trimmed. [I've had several menisectomies in the left knee and know the feeling of needing the surgery.]

Still, the Synvisc worked very well and I'm pleased. I've gotten 6+ months relief and still going strong.

For whatever it's worth, I have a friend whose orth surg gave her Orthovisc in one knee. She had a lot of pain following it. [Bear in mind that a paper cut has her howling in pain, so it's hard to gauge just how bad the pain was.] Some x-rays post Orthovsc are showing CPPD [probably brought on by the Forteo she takes for osteoporosis]. I think her pain all along was coming from the Forteo-induced CPPD and not the Orthovisc......but hey, what do I know?
